The Principle of Officers of Janesville Western Star Masonic Lodge #55 attended the Wisconsin Masonic Grand Lodge Annual Communications in Madison on June 7th and 8th. Within the award ceremonies contain the Lodge Excellence Awards.

The Lodge Excellence Award (LEA), established in 1977 as the Grand Master’s Achievement Award to aid lodges in planning a vibrant and successful slate of activities, continues to recognize lodges who earn outstanding achievement in meeting threshold levels of activity.

A point system has been established to record the lodge’s activities in three sections: Lodge Education & Growth, Lodge Programs & Activities, and Community Service by the lodge. All lodges achieving threshold scores are recognized for their accomplishments.

Janesville Western Star #55 Lodge not only received a highly sought after Gold award but was also identified as the having the second highest number of points of the 183 Lodges in the State. This is a very special honor and signifies the importance the Lodge has had as it develops it members for personal growth, community support and the betterment of mankind. The Janesville Lodge has seen a growth spurt the last two years and is receiving many applications for membership.

From the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin website: Wisconsin Freemasonry The Purpose of Freemasonry

What is the purpose of Freemasonry? One of its most basic purposes is to make good men even better. We try to place an emphasis on the individual man by strengthening his character, improving his moral and spiritual outlook, and broadening his mental horizons. We try to impress upon the minds of our members the principles of personal responsibility and morality, encouraging each member to practice in his daily life the lessons taught through symbolic ceremonies within the lodge.

One of the universal doctrines of Freemasonry is a belief in the “Brotherhood of Man and the Fatherhood of God”. The importance of this belief is reinforced by each Freemason as he practices the three principle tenets of this gentle craft: Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth, while promoting a way of life that binds like-minded men in a worldwide brotherhood transcending all religious, ethnic, cultural, social and educational differences.
