What is a Masonic Lodge?
A Masonic Lodge or Blue Lodge, is the basic organisational unit of Freemasonry. One of its most basic purposes is to
make good men even better.
We try to place an emphasis on the individual man by strengthening his character, improving his moral and spiritual outlook, and broadening his mental horizons.
We try to impress upon the minds of our members the principles of personal responsibility and morality, encouraging each member to practice in his daily life the lessons taught through symbolic ceremonies within the lodge.
About the Janesville Masonic Center
The Janesville Masonic Center is home to 6 Masonic Bodies, which include the Masonic Lodge, or Blue Lodge, The Order of the Amaranth, Order of the Eastern Star, as well as the York Rite which consists of The Royal Arch Masons, Gebal Council, and the Knights Templar Commandery.
Our Lodge as a whole engages in many philanthropic endeavors, and lends support to various charitable organizations throughout the local area.
We try not to stay focused on just one organization as there are so many for us to work with including, but not limited to, providing college scholarships for graduating students at both Janesville's Parker, and Craig High Schools, as well as providing a Cardiac AED for one of the local high schools. The Janesville Masonic Center has also assisted the Janesville American Legion with flag placement and removal at Janesville Oak Hill Cemetery for Memorial Day.
In addition, once one becomes a Master Mason, the door is open for membership in many, many other Masonic organizations each with its own members and philanthropies.
Of the local bodies in Janesville, the Gebal Council, has helped as route monitors for the Bert Blain Heart Walk of the American Cancer Society for over 12 years.
The Commandery of Knights Templars have provided hearing aids to those in need through the Knights Templars International Philanthropy.
The local Chapter of Royal Arch Masons also process Nursing Scholarships for Black Hawk Technical College and the University of Wisconsin School of Nursing student requests to the State Grand Chapter. The Chapter has also contributed monies to the Ellen M. Walton Memorial Nursing Scholarship fund at the University of Wisconsin.
Many local members of the Janesville Masonic Center also belong to the Shrine as Shriners who are involved in transportation of patients to the Shrine Hospitals in Minneapolis and Chicago and do fund raising for the hospitals and burn centers.

Thus the things Janesville Masons do most is what all Masons are to do, be great role models in our local community and society. The behaviors displayed, the words spoken, the kindness portrayed and caring for our fellow human beings world wide is what it is all about.
The sense of stability, moral uprightness, treating all on the level, as it is what is on the inside not the outside of each of us that is important. Brotherly, Love, Relief and Truth are paramount, we are continually taught to work for the betterment of those who live on this earth. We strive through our efforts make a difference in the lives of all we come in contact with.
